Honor Graduate Designation
An honor graduate shall be a graduating senior who has passed all of the state required courses for a college preparatory diploma, has been in attendance at Brookland High School for the last three semesters of high school work, and has earned an overall 3.50 grade point average. The class valedictorian shall be the Honor Graduate who has earned the highest GPA and has met the Summa Cum Laude requirements. The class salutatorian shall be the Honor Graduate who has earned the second highest GPA and has met the Summa Cum Laude requirements. A student must have attended an accredited public or private school a minimum of six semesters (9th grade and above) to be considered for recognition as an honor graduate. Honor graduates will be required to complete two years of the same foreign language. The graduation speakers will be selected from the highest honors distinction.
Honor graduates will be distinguished in three categories.
1. Cum Laude - For those students who complete all graduation requirements, complete the core requirements specified by the Arkansas Department of Education for a college preparatory diploma, complete at least 4 semester courses from Advanced Placement (AP) with applicable AP exam to earn weighted credit and/or concurrent college courses completed on the Brookland High School campus or those approved by Brookland High School administration and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.50.
2. Magna Cum Laude - For those students who complete all graduation requirements, complete the core requirements specified by the Arkansas Department of Education for a college preparatory diploma, complete at least 6 semester courses from Advanced Placement (AP) with applicable AP exam to earn weighted credit and/or concurrent college courses completed on the Brookland High School campus or those approved by Brookland High School administration and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.75.
3. Summa Cum Laude - For those students who complete all graduation requirements, complete the core requirements specified by the Arkansas Department of Education for a college preparatory diploma, complete at least 8 semester courses from Advanced Placement (AP) with applicable AP exam to earn weighted credit and/or concurrent college courses completed on the Brookland High School campus or those approved by Brookland High School administration and maintain a grade point average of at least 4.0
